Meet at Shaxriston Hotel between Bukhara’s Second and Third Trading Domes. A private one-hour hammam session includes steam, foam bath, scrub, massage, towels, slippers, soap, shampoo, Bukharian tea, and sweets. English- and Russian-speaking staff are available. Expect traditional heat, firm treatment, and a simple tea ceremony.
“Some confusion at the meetup were unsure of being at the right place for some time. The steam room, (too) hot marble slab and vigorous scrub were as expected, the firm massage too. Slightly surprised to have a male attendant / masseuse, and felt uncomfortable as others walked in and out between rooms. Dislike shown at the buckets of water being thrown over my head were ignored.. but it was an experience indeed, neither being offensive nor uncomfortable to a level of wanting to leave, but one I will not need again..”
